You are about to learn about process that will teach you how to be a better writer without having to depend on essays, research papers, or topics that you have no interest in.

As you first start this class, you will begin to notice that it is a whole different type of writing class. It has nothing to do with essays or research papers, but it has more to do with research in general. You will be introduced to things that you didn't expect to learn, like reading and interpreting visuals or reading/writing rhetorically.
“ENC1102 is a metaphor for the writing process" -Prof. Miles
The writing process in this class has taught me a lot, especially about how to look deeper into the writing that is presented in front of me. It taught me to interpret visuals, articles, websites, and writing in general. It also made me pay more attention to detail instead of just skimming through the text without understanding what I am reading or looking at. To help me do this, as a class, we worked on three big assignments. We worked on the proposal, the bibliography, and the digital writing project. Three projects that will change your perspective on writing completely. Changing from genres, audiences, formatting, etc.
Proposal
The proposal was an assignment where we basically had to propose our topic of interest to the professor and create an introduction where we place background information on the chosen topic. This assignment allowed me put together the research questions that could contribute to the overall idea of the topic. With that, I had to do research and create ideas that would introduce my topic and get it accepted by the professor. This was a good assignment to work on because I had the opportunity to work on a genre that I had never worked before on. A type of genre where you have to write to a specific person, propose an idea to them, and wait for their approval.
Bibliography
The bibliography was done after the professor accepted the proposal of the topic. It is an assingment where I needed to really dive deep and research even more about the topic chosen. I needed to be more specific with what I chose and make sure that I truly understood what I was reading. With each source that was chosen, a small piece of background information and summary had to be included so that the main idea of the source was shown. This was another great assignment where I learned to pick the right sources that would benefit my writing. I had to get sources that were credible, helpful, and reliable. That meant that I had to carefully choose these sources and make a good summary out of all of them. A summary that explained in a concise amount of words, what it was all about.
Digital Writing Project
The digital project, the biggest one of them all. This project was something that I had never done before so I learned a lot from it. It made me get out of my comfort zone and make a website, which I never thought I would be making. With this project, I really looked at writing a different way. Not only that, but it made me realize the importance of having the right audience to direct your information to, using the right rhetorical information, using correct visuals, etc. This project was basically creating an article or website, either being persuasive or informative, and talking more about the topic that your group chose. This project was honestly pretty fun to make. I learned how to make a website and how to write within the format of it, adding visuals and pieces of important information. I also got to be creative and had the chance to grow and experience a new type of genre and way of writing.
